Modern Craft is an industrial-design service principally owned and operated by Chris Spadazzi.
In 2002, Chris graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the top-ranked program at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a practicing studio artist, he has shown in solo and group shows in New York City; Washington, D.C.; Richmond, Virginia; and Honolulu, Hawaii.
More recently, Chris spent nine years as the lead designer and general manager at DCM Fabrication in Brooklyn. Utilizing his vast experience with materials and methods, and his understanding of aesthetics and efficient design, Chris contributed to over 1,000 projects for clients that include Polo Ralph Lauren, New York Design Center, Calvin Klein, Pentagram, New York City Ballet, Henri Bendel, Saks Fifth Avenue, Public Art Fund, Stanford University, Brooklyn Historical Society, Moey Inc., John Varvatos, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Frye Boots, Cole Haan, Patek Philippe, Armani Exchange, J.Crew, and many, many others.
Modern Craft’s philosophy is rooted in a symbiotic relationship between design and craft. Besides applying concepts to paper and modeling details on computer, Chris is a skilled welder and woodworker. He also regularly surfs a rotation of ten homemade surfboards in the Northeast and on Oahu.
